“Darling leave a light on for me … I’ll be there before you close the door”
Nestled tightly in between a couple of other shops on the gradually improving Baghdad end of Collins Street in Melbourne, is a very new Thai food establishment called Miss Siam. The Dear Luncher does not recall what existed in this spot before Miss Siam, but he can confirm that it is infinitely better.
Miss Siam boasts a rather expansive menu. For such a small tiny space (seating is limited), the amount of items congregated on their menu pleasantly surprises. Take-away will be the preferred option at an eatery such as this and this was the option The Dear Luncher chose today as he had several prison inspections on this particular day.
Your usual, typical Thai fare (soups, curries, noodle dishes, salads and wok dishes) are accompanied with two different ‘specials’ options: 1) Miss Siam Specials and 2) Dinner Specials for after 5pm. These options appear quite intriguing – but Your Dear Luncher did not entertain them as possibilities as soon as he saw the pork Penang Curry option.
The Dear Luncher has never seen a half boiled egg in a Penang Curry, but it was a welcome addition. The curry sauce and fresh produce were of a superb standard. The array of colours and the presentation for a mere take-away dish was exemplary. There was only one issue. The pork, though flavoursome was somewhat chewy. The only blemish on an otherwise excellent debut dish at this relatively new Melbourne establishment.
The price for this lunch was around the $13 mark, which is acceptable though not what I would consider superb value. However, the service and speed was both prompt and professional and Your Dear Luncher will return one day to sample a few of their other menu options.
